On Becoming a Registered Play Therapist/Supervisor
Disclaimer: The Association for Play Therapy, Inc. (APT) offers the designation of Registered Play Therapist (RPT) or Registered Play Therapist Supervisor (RPT-S) to individuals who have provided APT with documentation that they have: (a) a traditional mental health graduate or higher degree by a regionally accredited college or university; (b) been licensed by one or more applicable licensing authorities and/or certified by the primary certification authorities; (c) completed a minimum number of play therapy training and supervision clock hours; and (d) completed the requisite continuing education hours. The designation as a RPT or RPT-S does not certify, imply or affirm the knowledge or competency of such individual but only confirms that the education and training requirements identified herein have been satisfied.
CHANGES IN REGISTERED PLAY THERAPIST REQUIREMENTS

During its Feb. 8, 2003 meeting, the Board of Directors voted to require that Registered Play Therapists/Supervisors  be licensed or certified by their primary state boards or professional associations. This policy was adopted to better assure protection of and accountabilitiy to the general public and clients, and was prompted by legal counsel.  Registered Play Therapist/Supervisors are already required to be licensed or certified.  If you have any questions, you can contact Carol Guerrero at cguerrero@a4pt.org or call her at 559-252-2278.
